Ego-‘Big Social Problem in India’

The ego is one of the most self-destructive mechanisms of a person’s character and his or her abilities. The ego is that which separates you from the Reality, from the Truth, from the ultimate Source. A person becomes a slave to his ego when he thinks of selfish gains. On the one hand, he is pulled by his selfish desires, and on the other, he is alarmed by his inner voice.

Ego driven people continually live in the past and always plan for the future. They never live in the moment. They are always thinking of the next great phase of their life, even when this one is perfect.

In India, Ego can be termed as a big social problem. Most of the people are highly egoistic and did not want to compromise on it. Especially people, who rise to higher ranks or get high positions in society or become rich starts classifying themselves as different class of people than the rest of people. There are many examples where people use their power to exploit other because only they want to satisfy their own ego. Ego clash can be seen among people of same class. People are usually hurrying to criticize others, only because these people have hurt their ego.

In office rivalries are mostly result of hatreds grown due to ego clashes. Many bosses in Indian offices are more concerned with their own ego satisfaction rather than the benefits of company or government.

Ego problems are not restrained only up to office or societies but they are very well present inside Indian homes. Ego problems can be seen between all the relations of Father-son, husband-wife, brother-brother or brother-sister, no relations are left alone by the ego problem. In countries like America, the couples do household works together, but it is not the case in India. Here, women have to do the household works alone while the husbands sit in front of the TV or read the newspaper slouching in a couch. There are , of course, husbands who help wives, but majority of husbands fall into the other category.

With the advent of new technologies and advancement in higher education, these problems are becoming even worse. Now days, a small school going boy or girl also have big ego to satisfy.  It looks that people have forgotten the art of forgiving and respect for others. We are only and only concerned with our and only our ego.

The most important step towards self-transformation is to shed one’s ego. When you can learn to let go of the ego, the level of success and fulfillment you will achieve will be dramatic.

Don’t worry,Be happy~Specially for Indian Women

Chetan Bhagat’s Article in Times Of India~ Specially for Indian Women.

Do Read it and share it with all the women in your life.

———————————————————————

Alright, this is not cool at all. A recent survey by Nielsen has revealed that Indian women are the most stressed out in the world:  87% of our women feel stressed out most of the time. This statistic alone has caused me to stress out. Even in workaholic America, only 53% women feel stressed.

What are we doing to our women? ! I’m biased, but Indian women are the most beautiful in the world. As mothers, sisters, daughters, colleagues, wives and girlfriends – we love them. Can you imagine life without the ladies?

Yet, look at how we Indians, a land of spiritual people, treat them. At an extreme, we abort girls before they are born, neglect them in their upbringing, torture them, molest them, sell them, rape them and honour-kill them. Of course, these criminal acts are performed by a tiny minority.

However, a majority of us are involved in lesser crimes. We judge, expect too much, don’t give space and suffocate our women’s individuality. Imagine if you did this to men – won’t they be stressed out?

At a broader level, this isn’t just about our women. We Indians have a habit of exploiting anyone without power.

For now, I want to give Indian women five suggestions to reduce their stress levels.

One, Don’t ever think you are without power. Give it back to that mother-in-law. Be who you are, not someone she wished you would be. She doesn’t like you? That’s her problem.

Two, If you are doing a good job at work and your boss doesn’t value you – tell him that, or quit. Talented, hard-working people are much in demand.

Three, Educate yourself, learn skills, network – figure out ways to be economically independent. So next time your husband tells you that you are not a good enough wife, mother or daughter-in-law, you can tell him to take a hike.

Four, Do not ever feel stressed about having a dual responsibility of family and work. It is difficult, but not impossible. The trick is not to expect an A+ in every aspect of your life. You are not taking an exam, and you frankly can’t score cent per cent (unless you are in SRCC, of course). It is okay if you don’t make four dishes for lunch, one can fill their stomach with one. It is okay if you don’t work until midnight and don’t get a promotion. Nobody remembers their job designation on their dying day.

Five, Most important, don’t get competitive with other women. Someone will make a better scrapbook for her school project than you. Another will lose more weight with a better diet. Your neighbour may make a six-dabba tiffin for her husband, you don’t – big deal. Do your best, but don’t keep looking out for the report card, and definitely don’t expect to top the class. There is no ideal woman in this world, and if you strive to become one, there will be only one thing you will achieve for certain – stress.

So breathe, chill, relax. Tell yourself you are beautiful, do your best and deserve a peaceful life. Anybody trying to take that away from you is making a mistake, not you. Your purpose of coming to this earth is not to please everyone. Your purpose is to offer what you have to the world, and have a good life in return.

The next time this survey comes, I don’t want to see Indian women on top of the list. I want them to be the happiest women in the world. Now smile, before your mother-in-law shouts at you for wasting your time reading the newspaper.

Cherish Womanhood !!! 🙂

Indian Obsession with Fair Skin

Why is fair skin the barometer of beauty? Does this question come in your mind too?

Sushmita Sen

I like Sushmita Sen for her individuality and of course her dusky looks. Same goes for Konkana Sen and Nandita Das, but still the fair skinned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina etc are  the queens of bollywood. Ash is talented and got ample opportunity to show her versatility but the three dusky Bong beauties are no less. It’s about opportunity, which does sometimes  come from popularity. Popularity, which is depicted from the success of a movie seen by the masses. Masses want to see fair skinned ladies.

In one of the advertisement on TV one actress of bollywood, who has always, always flaunted her sun kissed skin tone with style ; she has carried her natural eye brows (which seem to be joining slightly from the middle) ; she is no size zero and we just love her for her vivaciousness and spontaniety…. could you guess…. She is Kajol!!

But when I saw her in Olay Total Effects (Anti Ageing cream) advertisement, she donned a fair look, of course by applying make up! And the fair – so fair and so chalky white look, that I couldn’t believe it was her. It’s only her signature style of eye brows and bright eyes, due to which I could recognize her. Ironically, in another advt (Knorr soup) she does not put make up and looks natural and nice, so what happened to Olay effect now?!

Kajol(In Olay Effects Ad)

I was saddened. Does she really needed to work for this Advt. and show that fairness is what she’s got after using this product? A healthy, problem free skin doesn’t mean it has to be low on melanin? Could she not have flaunted her wheatish complexion, which still radiates and shows her good health? And is beauty just skin deep?

A fair-skinned person is considered attractive regardless of whether that person has a symmetrical face or a healthy figure. I’ve noticed that certain people who would not be considered attractive in the United States are considered beautiful in India because of their light skin. The flip side is that some who are considered unattractive because of darker skin would be considered attractive in countries outside of India. The equation is simple: In India, light skin equals beauty.

I, like all of you, have seen those endless number of ‘fair n lovely’ kind of advts all my life. Want success, be fair skinned….. want confidence….. want acceptability in profession…… want your lover to propose you…. use fairness cream!!  So fair skin is the mantra, no marks to talent, no marks to over-all personality, nothing to do with your attitude…. have fair skin….. be the undisputed charmer!!  The craze for fair skin is so much, especially in north of India, you got to see the matrimonial advts in newspapers… people especially ask for fair and slim brides!!! Phew!

Why don’t Indians understand that brown is beautiful? White people spend hours on the beach and put on a hundred creams to get tanned. And in winter they even artificially lie under infrared lamps in beauty parlors to get brown! Wake up India, brown is beautiful, smart and it is the future.

Now, even the market is hotting up for men too.  There are many brands who are selling fairness creams for men.  What happened to the rugged look of men? All groomed with manicure and pedicure and facial?

Indians you are as great, if not greater than the white man. Not only you people are among the most brilliant in the world today — half of Silicon Valley is of Indian origin, 30 percent of the United Kingdom’s doctors are Indians. There is nothing to be ashamed because you are dark but be proud of what you are and your inner qualities.

The question is that why are we Indians so obsessed with fair skin? Why do we still drool over the colour of the skin, as if the colour of the skin translated to power? Has it not got etched in our psyche somewhere so deep, because the whites rules us for ages, so somewhere, we have accepted that fairness means being superior?  Has complexion not got a lot with how people treat you? Is it not surprising? What is your experience? Have you ever experienced any such thing? Do share with me.

Is Woman Really Free?

No more eyebrows are raised at the thought of a woman going out to work. Thanks to the various organizations, authors and feministic critics who have struggled a lot for the freedom of woman.

Apparently a woman is free enough to pursue her wishes. She has ventured and succeeded in all the fields of knowledge. In the present state of society, woman is walking equal steps to man. Women’s position, both inside and outside the house, has been changed and elevated from that of the position what our grandmother and mother had tolerated. But if the entire situation is placed under scrutiny then an altogether different picture will appear before us. Actually we will find that the position of women is no better than before.

Still in India the birth of a baby-boy to a baby-girl gives more pleasure to many parents. There are many such parents who pamper their sons while deprive their daughters from basic needs. It is believed that women are weak, both physically and mentally.Though the mental strength of women varies but the fact of feminine physical weakness, cannot be ruled out completely. The biological structure of women has tied their hands. For men she has always been an object of lust and desire. Her structure itself has prohibited women from many activities. A woman cannot travel alone at night or she cannot go to any unknown places. Woman is always exposed to the risk of deflowering.

All along women are taught to acquire the so-called qualities of a woman like susceptibility of heart, delicacy of sentiment and refinement of taste which are again synonymous with label of weakness. It is expected that a girl should be a goddess of meekness and mercy. It is as if the duty of women to forgive men for any of their crimes. Again the qualities like bravery, courage and rashness are called masculine. The girl’s formal lessons at home prepares her to acquire the femininity.

In a woman’s life marriage plays a very crucial role.A lot of changes take place in her life. They face a different situation in life. But their slavery only changes from their father to husband. As before marriage a girl is supposed to listen to her father so after marriage a good wife should listen to her husband. All the vital decisions of the house are always taken by the male members of the family. Marriage itself is an institution of intolerance.

In many countries, still men and women are paid unequal wages for equal works. If it is seen honestly, we will find that women work more than men. In case of working women, the problem is worse. They have to do all the works, both inside and outside of the house. Moreover they have the additional work of child bearing, giving birth and rearing it.

Women face various kinds of hurdles in their life but domestic violence add to their woes. Domestic violence is prevalent in the lower class of people. Women have to withstand extreme punishments. There is no relief from her agonies.

There is a notion that women enhance the beauty of the house. Many women are also with this kind of concept. They find pleasure in thinking themselves the queen of the house. But actually their activities are only the outcome of their husband’s wishes. Housewives are financially dependent on their husbands. Even working women are not fully independent.

Is there any end of this lifelong oppression? When would they actually be free? Free of injustice and domination?

Some Lessons for Indian Managers

Today we go through some lessons for our managers in the industry. Any industry, IT, Finance, Education, Farming. These rules apply to them all.

A lot of these tips are inspired by the biggest manager in the country. The great one, who’s been doing it so successfully for many years now.

Silence is Golden~ When in doubt, don’t speak. Go home. Take a leave from office. Eat some samosas. Do anything. Just don’t speak. Better silent than sorry.

People have Short Memories~ Don’t worry about public opinion. As long as you don’t screw it up by speaking, people will forget. The standard time for Indians is two days, by when one of four things happens and distracts them.

A new Scam
A new Movie
A T20 Match.
A sale at Big Bazaar
Remember Ghajini? Yes, every Indian is like that. Just that instead of 15 minutes, make it 2 days.

Degrees help~ When in doubt, remind people of your degrees. Invaluable in India. Anything is forgiven for a man with more than two degrees.

The Buck NEVER Stops~ Whoever came up with the buck stops here was a bloody liar. The buck is circulate-able. You can make it go into an infinite loop.

Master the art of passing the buck, and nobody can ever touch you. Ever.

Scapegoats are worth their weight in gold~ When all else fails, a good manager must have someone available who will take the blame. Be prepared to offer something in return. We are Indians. Nothing comes for free.

Don’t speak~ Did we mention the importance of silence?

Silence isn’t just golden. It’s platinum. Uranium.

They did it first~ It is fine to do something that might seem wrong, as long as it has been done before, especially by those liable to question you.

Inaction is action~ Sitting over things often makes them go away. It has been suspected that this was going to be published as Newton’s fourth law but somehow didn’t happen.

Just don’t do it. Store away that letter in a file in the bank locker. Move that email to a folder you never access. In 2011 alone, so far 45,000 customer escalations across service firms have got resolved automatically through inaction.

Remember these, and you will rise all the way to the top of whatever you do. And remember to send me a thank you note. And maybe the keys to a nice Infiniti. 🙂

India is the second top spam generating nation

According to the report by computer security firm Sopho, India is the second in the list of the top spam generating nations in world. India has share of around seven per cent of global junk mails sent during the first quarter of the year. United States is at the top position with more then 13 per cent of world’s total junk mails. Brazil and South Korea are at 3rd and 4th position with 6.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent of the junk mails respectively. However, China, the most infamous nation for cyber crimes is at 15th position with just 1.9 per cent of the junk mails.
Other top spam generating countries are

5. Vietnam (3.4 per cent)
6. Germany (3.2 per cent)
7. Britain (3.1 per cent)
8. Russia (3.1 per cent)
9. Italy (3.1 per cent)
10. France (3.0 per cent)
11. Romania (2.5 per cent)
12. Poland (2.4 per cent).

According to the report, junk mails, which virtually come from malware-infected computers and cause a huge strain on company resources and leads to lost productivity, accounts for 97 per cent of all messages received by business email servers, many of them selling counterfeit or illicit goods.
